“If the cap fits, wear it.”

This proverb suggests that if something applies to or describes someone, they should accept it or acknowledge it. It encourages self-awareness and acceptance of criticism or praise that is relevant to oneself.

Difference Between “If the Cap Fits, Wear It” and “If the Shoe Fits, Wear It“
While both proverbs encourage accepting a situation or criticism that applies to oneself, “If the cap fits, wear it” is more commonly used in British English, and “If the shoe fits, wear it” is more common in American English. The choice of “cap” or “shoe” is simply a matter of regional variation, and the meaning remains the same in both versions.
